Introductory Information about Ian

"I was born in Barry and left aged 18 to attend Hatfield Polytechnic, now University of Hertfordshire then I worked at Glaxo Research (now GlaxoSmithKline PLC.) for over ten years, initially as a microbiologist and later as an information scientist.

I then became bored and branched out into self-employment converting a hobby of working in stained glass into a full time employment. After various twists and turns I spent almost fifteen years working for various Barnet based solicitors representing clients detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act.

My wife & I have lived in Redbourn for twenty five years but before retirement my job required me to be travelling all over the country to various hospital mental health secure units and thus I had little time to involve myself in village activities.

Since retiring I have been active in the Friends of Nickey Line as I enjoy county activities, such as bird watching & walking. My other interests include travelling, visiting museums / art galleries, opera and general 'tekkie' things.

I am concerned about environmental matters and maintaining Redbourn's unique character while enabling it to survive long term and thus am involved in the various parish council campaigns to prevent it being engulfed by unsuitable housing and help maintain its pleasant environment.

I have served on the council for ten years, initially co-opted and then twice elected. I am currently vice-chair of Finance and Policy and also sit on Management and Communications and Commons and Green Spaces. I am actively involved in the Village Hall management and consider it "the jewel" in Redbourn's crown."
